Co-op Program
Vulcans Co-op students have excellent opportunities
to work with the Systems Integration and Systems Support areas within
the Corporate Information Services department. The work they may perform
includes the following:
|
|
Manning the end-user "hotline" to solve
PC-related problems and help users to help themselves.
|
|
|
Staging and installing new PCs on any of the Corporate
Offices Local Area Networks.
|
|
|
Assisting with the installation of standard PC
software.
|
|
|
Testing and documenting system changes before they
are released in production to users.
|
Co-ops are exposed to the latest IS technologies and methodologies
including, client-server architecture, Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows
2000, and Internet/Intranet technologies. They work individually and on
teams to gain experience from the diversity of knowledge possessed by
the departments full-time employees. Co-op students are able to
apply the knowledge they learn in school in on-the-job applications, and
they take back to campus the practical experience they gain while working
at Vulcan.
This learning experience takes place in a challenging
but friendly and relaxed atmosphere where help is readily available at
all times. Co-op employees may take advantage of formal computer-related
training sessions and receive almost all of the benefits associated with
full-time employment (such as vacations and participation in health care,
flexible spending account, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and retirement
plans).
Currently, Vulcan interviews for Co-op students at Auburn
University and the University of Alabama. You are encouraged to check
with your local career placement office to determine the next time we
will be interviewing at your school.
